When installing an alarm on the ceiling place the alarm as close to the center as possible.
Mount fire detector on wall or ceiling.
Find the screws that came with the smoke alarm and the toggle bolts that go on the screws.
Mount detectors on the wall at least a couple feet below your ceiling or even lower.
The latter are what will hold the smoke alarm in place.
In either case install the alarm at least 4 inches 100 mm from where the wall and ceiling meet.
Do not place the detector right next to or over a fireplace or flame producing appliance.

Carbon monoxide often won t rise all the way up to the ceiling like smoke does until the concentration of the gas is at a critically dangerous level.
